Before: Childhood Wounds and the Limits of Conventional Talk Therapy

For Kyle, the struggle wasn’t about breaking free from chemical dependency, but resolving the persistent emotional fallout of early life experiences. He had spent years in traditional talk therapy, which provided valuable perspective and coping mechanisms, but couldn’t quite reach the core of the trauma:

“I’ve been doing therapy and I think that was great in a lot of ways and this is kind of like having really, really, really [deep] therapy sessions, you know, where you have a lot of clarity when you go into it.”

While he had known about ibogaine for years through online research, a recent bout of depression became the tipping point that pushed him to seek a more definitive breakthrough:

“I knew about it many years ago. And I just listened to testimonials on YouTube of people and I was convinced it seemed like this is life-changing for people. I always wanted to try it, and I got like depressed recently and I was just like, I wanted to make progress in certain ways.”

When discussing the treatment with friends and family, he encountered the usual skepticism from people unfamiliar with the medicine, but his research kept him grounded:

“I wasn’t worried because I looked it up and I mean, for some reason when people talk about it with people that don’t know anything about it, they get all worried about it even though they don’t know anything about it.”

During: Amplified Imagery, Two Flood Doses, and Root Resolution

Arriving at the facility, comprehensive medical protocols—including continuous vitals monitoring, EKGs, and IV hydration—quickly put any lingering physiological concerns to rest.

The treatment protocol involved two distinct flood doses that worked together sequentially. The first session brought intense, highly detailed internal visualization, highlighting pivotal moments from his past that required resolution:

“It amplified my mental imagery a bunch… made it much more vivid… not all your life, but yeah, moments of my life for sure. Especially on the first one.”

Rather than simply replaying memories, the two sessions functioned as a two-part therapeutic operation—first diagnosing the emotional damage, then resolving it:

“My first one opened up. It helped me understand like my trauma more. And then on the second one, it was almost like I cleaned it up and I healed it. Second one was just as important. Very important stuff was done. I got a lot out of it.”

Complementary modalities supported his recovery between sessions. Working with the on-site psychologist helped him immediately integrate the psychological insights, while somatic bodywork addressed the physical tension:

“I’ve never tried acupuncture before and I actually noticeably felt a difference from it and so I liked it. I like the psychologist. She—like there were a couple points that were good that I got out of that.”

After: Lasting Optimism and a Grounded Foundation

Emerging from the treatment, Kyle felt the heavy grip of his recent depression lift, replaced by a renewed sense of emotional resilience:

“Soon after the ibogaine felt a lot of optimism… I think it’s life-changing. Yeah. I got what I needed, exactly what I needed… The way that the trauma was affecting me, I like healed that.”

When asked if he anticipated needing return booster sessions down the road, his answer was direct: “I think I got what I needed.”

Reflecting on his journey, Kyle offered practical advice for individuals exploring ibogaine specifically for emotional trauma and depression, emphasizing the value of combining traditional inner work with the medicine:

“I think I would do the therapy first for a while because that would kind of like train you on how to work on your issues, and then you’d be prepared to do it really effectively during the ibogaine. Because it actually—it brought up more memories… and so it’ll probably be good, you know, I’m going to get to work on those.”
